Who we are
West Country Estate Register is run by Nicholas Shaw, a sole trader, trading as West Country Estate Register. Nicholas Shaw is the data controller for the personal information described in this notice. You can contact us at enquiries@westcountryestateregister.co.uk.
What information we collect
When you request a trial issue or subscribe, we collect the details you give us, which are usually your name, business name, email address, postal address (if provided) and the regions you wish to receive. If you subscribe, payment is taken by Stripe; we receive confirmation of payment and basic billing details, but we do not see or store your full card details.
How we use it
We use your information only to:
- send you the Register and any trial issue you have requested;
- manage your subscription and billing (through Stripe);
- reply to your enquiries and tell you about important changes to the service.
Our lawful bases are the performance of our contract with you and, for keeping financial records, our legal obligations.
Who we share it with
We never sell or rent your information. We share it only with the service providers we need to run the business, namely Stripe for payments and our email provider for delivering the Register, and where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your details while you are a subscriber. After you cancel, we delete them, except for billing records, which we are required to keep for tax purposes (normally six years).
Your rights
You may ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted, at any time, by emailing enquiries@westcountryestateregister.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
About the content of the Register
The information in each issue is derived from deceased-estate notices published in The Gazette, the UK’s official public record, and contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. If you have a question about a particular entry, please contact us.
